PRESIDENT MICHAEL WARRINGTON
HANDOVER FOR MIKE WARRINGTON TOOK PLACE FROM MICHAEL THOMPSON ON 25th JUNE 2008
Retiring President Michael Thompson handed over the reins of control at the ROTARY CLUB of STAMFORD to Incoming President Michael Warrington of Ketton at the George Hotel on Wednesday.
Mike Warrington who has been Treasurer of the Rotary Club from 2000 to 2006 first joined Rotary in 1980 in Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf as a Member of the Rotary Club of Sulmaniya (District 2450).
He has visited Rotary Clubs worldwide & the most distant is the Rotary Club of Lahaina, Hawaii
In Bahrain as Manager of an International Firm of Civil Engineering Consultants he was responsible for Major Works on the Bahrain Sewerage & Drainage schemes totalling over £30.0M.
In Rotary in Bahrain he received the Colin Lee Merit Award for services to Rotary; was Weekly Bulletin Editor for Two years; was a Member of the 1985 District Conference Registration Committee which was held in Bahrain, and was an active member each year for the Great Muharraq Raft Race which raised over £125,000 each year for charitable causes.
Mike has lived in Rutland since 1987, initially in Uppingham and since 2002 in Ketton.
As General Manager of the well known local Charity – Nene Valley Railway – he was very involved in Tourism & served as Treasurer then Chairman of Peterborough Tourism in 1988 – 1992; a member of Northamptonshire Tourism; Treasurer of Rutland Tourism from 1993 – 1999.
Although having retired from being Manager at the NVR he is still an active volunteer as a Signalman; in the Booking Office and in Corporate Hospitality.
Currently he is a Member of Ketton Parish Council and Administratior to the Highways & open spaces Committee.
