On 28th February at the lunchtime meeting Gp Captain Ro Atherton commander of RAF Wittering was inducted as Hon. member.by President Mike-the first lady ever to join the club! Ro lives in the CO's residence at Wittering and is joined by her husband at weekends. ROTARY INTERNATIONAL http://www.rotary.org is a worl wide service organisation for men and women who look to certain ideals in their business and professional life and work for the benefit of serving others by charitable acts and deeds an example being the near eradication polio world-wide by funding and physical action.
There are approximately 1.2 million members in the world in 163 countries in 29 000 clubs.
Rotary International has its own charity known as FOUNDATION which ,acting through the loacal clubs,regularly sponsors young people with potential leadership qualities to go to various parts of the world to study and act upon experiences there. These are called GSE'S (Group Study Exchanges) In return the local clubs accept visiting parties who study things in their own area.
RIBI (Rotary in British Isles) http://www.ribi.org is a unique organisation which acts as a co-ordinating body to regulate Rotary activities solely within the UK and Ireland There are approximately 60,000 members in this group in 1816 clubs in this area.
